Ohayo is a charming Japanese café located at 145 Mont-Royal Ave E in Montreal, and it's quickly becoming a favorite among locals. The ambiance is inviting, with ample seating bathed in natural light from large windows, making it an ideal spot for both casual gatherings and solo retreats. Reviews highlight the much-praised matcha latte, though opinions vary on its preparation. While some found it flavorful, others felt it didn’t fully capture the traditional essence.
Food is where Ohayo truly shines. Standout items include the ebi burger, which has garnered rave reviews for its crispy yet juicy patty, enhanced by a deliciously tangy yuzu mayo and served on a soft brioche bun. Vanessa Tran’s experiences echo this sentiment, noting its superiority over competitors like McDonald's. Diners also enjoy trying the lamb mazeman and keema curry, although some found the latter a bit lacking in vegetables. Overall, Ohayo’s menu balances traditional dishes with a contemporary twist, inviting patrons to explore and relish diverse flavors. Friendly service adds to the warm atmosphere, making it a must-visit spot in Montreal’s dining scene.

I stumbled across this cafe while i was walking in the area. There are lots of seating with great lighting and lots of large windows for some sunlight. I got the matcha latte and sesame latte. The matcha latte had great flavour and i didnt add any sweetner (maple syrup is offered). It was perfect! Then i ordered a sesame latte but note that this is already pre-sweetened. It was a little sweet for me but there was a really robust sesame flavour which i love. For lunch, i also ordered an ebi (shrimp) burger. If you’ve been to Japan’s McDonalds, then you know how popular ebi burgers are. I have to say this tasted better than the McDonalds’ one so i was pleasantly surprised.
Very cute spot, didn't get anything but their matcha, they don't make it the traditional way it was a little disappointing 6.5/10 for the matcha latte (not the best, but I have seen worse). Their food looks very good, I'd have to go back to try it. Their table have a sign that says that we can't study there, but still there were people studying after the lunch "rush". Nice café!
My go to Japanese Cafe in Montreal. Been so many times and was never disappointed! I highly recommend their lamb mazeman.
This place quickly became a favourite. I’ve stopped in countless times for coffee (which is always great by the way) but decided to eat here today. I went for the shrimp burger. I can’t tell you what I expected but it blew any idea of what a shrimp burger could be out of my mind. Their house made yuzu mayo is so delicious and the brioche bread compliments it very nicely but THE PATTY… that is one plump patty! Crispy on the outside but juicy on the inside. Literally bursting with flavour. This is a sandwich that will get your hands dirty. And it will be worth it.
Lovely café, seems new in the area. It had lots of space on a Sunday morning but filled up quickly closer to lunchtime. The atmosphere is nice for a casual date or just hanging out with friends, or even for a solo date! I got the keema curry, which was a simple dish and lacking vegetables, but very filling. It was my first time trying keema curry and I learned that I prefer traditional japanese curry. Service is friendly, I would come back and try other food items on the menu!
We got up bright and early and it was a delightful way to kick off the day! Filled with delicious and tantalizing flavors in an inviting atmosphere. We couldn’t resist trying the beloved Tamago Sando, and, as it turned out, it was an exquisite choice. The dish featured fluffy egg, and the delightful addition of salmon was simply divine. Equally impressive was the Ebi burger, which was just as incredible and satisfying. We were also fortunate enough to sample the weekend special: the Katsu Sando. It was nothing short of amazing, full of complimentary flavors that came together so harmoniously, showcasing the expert craftsmanship of the chef (whose genius we already knew). Every drink we ordered was perfection. The sesame latte was creamy and nuanced, while the matcha yuzu lemonade provided a refreshing flourish that balanced the richness of our food. For dessert, we enjoyed a lovely red bean dorayaki—light, fluffy, and filled with sweet red bean paste; it was lovely. A fantastic start to the day, with every dish expertly crafted and every sip delightful. We left feeling satisfied and eager to return for more of their innovative and delicious food!
One of the best coffee shops of 2024 in Montreal! I was delighted to see reviews like Tastet praise this incredible Japanese coffee shop! Let’s give a breakdown of each aspect of the coffee shop: Food: From the Mazemen to their ramens, there is a little bit of everything! Their kitchen usually opens at 10:30 am EST. This does not mean that you shouldn’t pass by! In fact, the whole point of this review is to explain how good the coffee and the food are ! I am quite the cortado lover and it is incredible how they are able to take such care of each coffee. Their matcha is definitely worth it and I would invite everyone to give this a go! One of my favorite coffee shops in Montreal is September café because of their consistency and each barista being skilled with making precisely every kind of coffee. This is a coffee shop that is quite close in terms quality of coffee that September café makes. Which brings me to the food! This is such a delight and it feels like I’ve gone back to Japan all over again! Rich, comforting! Their dishes are something that I can continue eating all day long especially the mazemen. I strongly recommend trying each of their dish! Atmosphere: calm, welcoming, peaceful and beautiful! This is the kind of coffee shop that makes you want to stay long hours and enjoy the vibrant and serene place! This is feels like a coffee shop in Copenhagen. Service: this is where they stand out from most! Incredibly kind, caring and focus, each coffee and meal is being cared for. The owner is incredibly kind and knowledgeable when it comes to coffee (grains, technique and other topics). This is the kind of coffee shop where I would love a James Hoffman to pass by and drink their coffee. I strongly recommend this Japanese coffee shop! If you don’t believe me, I invite you to read up on food critics like Tastet to see what they think! Have a lovely day!
staff is very kind and the food was delicious. i had the tomago sando and the chocolatine and both were wonderful. there was some very loud drilling and sparks coming from the back of the restaurant when we were dining in which was a bit loud and annoying.
